Holden Day at Dandenong

On April 12, Dandenong Showgrounds was the setting for a large turnout of Holdens covering the classics of the late 40s and 50s through to the modern era. My distinct leaning towards those examples produced before the end of the 70s was amply rewarded.

A couple of FJs sitting side by side were stunning. The old Holden dealer panel vans were common back in the day and being lined up with a blue two-tone sedan really set it off.

Two fine examples of different periods caught my attention. The first, a two owner FC in two-tone grey and in very original condition, is a great example of what was probably the best Holden model of the 1950s. The previous model, the FE, was Holden’s first major styling change and the refinements built into the subsequent FC made it the equivalent of what the EH would become in the 1960s.

The other car that really took my fancy was a lovely HT Monaro 350 GTS that has been in the same family since new. I’m always attracted to a car with Daytona Bronze duco and this one is just terrific. This is an example of leaving a great car to speak for itself and being well satisfied with the result.

After a good walk around looking at some excellent cars, this HT Monaro got my nod as the car of the day.
