Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport 2015
One of the best things about motor racing at the Phillip Island Circuit is that spectators can still get pretty close to the cars without any high mesh fences spoiling the view. It’s a great way to watch motorsport with the atmosphere of the days when a lot of the classic cars on the track were new models.
A spectacular part of the weekend of March 7 and 8 was the appearance of Allan Moffat’s Trans Am Mustang. The owners of the Mustang, the Bowden family, should be congratulated, along with race meeting organisers headed by Ian Tate, for having the car at the meeting. Seeing the famous Coca-Cola Mustang out on the circuit was a wonderful sight. Then there was the opportunity to have a close look at the car in the pits. The Bowden team confided that this car, along with Norm Beechey’s 1970 Monaro, still has the greatest effect on visitors to their collection in Queensland. It’s that special.
There’s a full collection of my photos from Phillip Island here so check out the Trans Am Mustang and a variety of others from the weekend. And my photo gallery of the Allan Moffat Trans Am Mustang is here.
